JERSEY CITY, NJ—Sabre Real Estate Group LLC, based in Garden City, NY, is expanding its presence in the Garden State, opening an office at 30 Journal Square in Jersey City and naming industry veteran James Aug as principal to run and manage the six-broker office.

Aug has 27 years of retail real estate experience including 20 years in New Jersey, including owning his own firms, Garrett Aug & Co. and RS Aug Real Estate. He was also a senior vice president at the CB Richard Ellis New Jersey Retail Services Group where he and Jayson Siano initially met and worked together.

Sabre is a young and fresh company with best-in-class resources that's highly focused,” says Aug, explaining his reason for joining Sabre. “They've set up a great platform and I knew that I could really take the New Jersey business to the next level… It's a win-win.”

Jimmy's retail real estate royalty,” says Jayson Siano, managing principal of Sabre. Siano notes that Aug comes from a family tradition in real estate: Aug's father, Charles, co-founded the metropolitan area's first retail real estate specialist firm, Garrett-Aug Store Leasing Associates. “We already have a significant business in New Jersey and were looking for the right partner to spearhead our New Jersey office. With Jimmy bringing his landlord and tenant relationships and experience to our team, we are exactly where we want to be.”

During his 20 years in New Jersey, Aug was responsible for the northern New Jersey rollout of many national retailers; including Macy's, Circuit City, Sears Hardware, Sears Auto, New York Sports Club, The Great Indoors, Wendy's, TGI Friday's, Potbelly, Au Bon Pain and Modell's.

Before forming his own firm, Aug was a salesperson, broker and CEO/president of Garrick-Aug, which was sold in 2005 to an investment company.

Aug says he wants to raise NJ brand recognition for Sabre, which is fairly well established on Long Island and New York's outer boroughs. “We want to leverage our collective relationships in this market and expand both our tenant and landlord business in New Jersey,” says Aug, who adds that he expects to hire additional brokers by year end.

Sabre's New Jersey team is working on expansion strategies throughout Northern New Jersey for a number of national retailers, including Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza, Bare Burger, Blink Fitness, Chocolate Works, Chop't, Kidville, Landmark Leisure Group, Muscle Maker Grill, Save-a-Lot Food Stores, SportClips, Starbucks, Teavana and The Joint.
