MINNEAPOLIS—The Opus Group has just completed VÉLO, yet another of the boutique luxury apartment projects that has recently sprouted in downtown Minneapolis. The new complex includes 101 residential apartments and 12,000-square-feet of mixed-use retail space.

VÉLO, the French word for “bicycle,” sits within Minneapolis' North Loop neighborhood, at the center of the bike-friendly city's cyclist paths and public transit systems. The area has a wide-range of destinations, including entertainment venues, fine dining and specialty shops. And Red Cow, a Twin Cities-based bar and restaurant, has already decided to occupy about 5,775-square-feet of the new space.

“VÉLO exemplifies the dynamic, urban Minneapolis lifestyle and sets a new standard of luxury for the North Loop,” says Dave Menke, president of Opus Development Company, LLC. “We are honored to have collaborated with Aurora Investments and Sentinel Management Company on this project.”

Other developers have noted the considerable demand for luxury living in the neighborhood. In 2013, for example, Trammell Crow Company, broke ground on Junction Flats, another transit-oriented community in the North Loop with 182 class A apartments.

Opus developed VÉLO as a hub for residents who want an active lifestyle. It offers amenities like a yoga studio, club lounge, outdoor fire pit and grill kitchen, fitness center and outdoor terrace, complete with resident garden boxes.

“We are pleased to have partnered so successfully with Opus on this project,” says Luigi Bernardi, president of Aurora Investments, LLC. “Since opening our doors just a few short weeks ago, we've seen tremendous leasing activity and look forward to our residents enjoying the quality and diverse amenities we've incorporated into this building.”

Opus Development Company was the project's developer and Opus Design Build, LLC was the design-builder. Opus AE Group, LLC was the architect and structural engineer of record and partnered with Minneapolis-based Elness Swenson Graham Architects, Inc. on the design. Aurora owns the property Sentinel manages the building.
