NEW HYDE PARK, NY—Given that retail and real estate is so focused on experience (aka entertaining the shopper) these days, it's nice once in a while for the professionals in the retail and real estate industries to have a little fun themselves.

Enter Kimco Realty Corp., which has launched its second annual REIToon Cartoon Caption Contest on its Facebook page. The New Yorker-like contest calls for industry professionals to write captions for two REIToons, part of Kimco's cartoon blog series drawn by nationally syndicated cartoonist Mark O'Collin.

“We launched the REIToons series two years ago in order to bring humor and camaraderie to our industry,” said Diane Agostinello, Kimco's director of marketing and leasing services in the announcement. “Last year was our inaugural caption contest, and people had a lot of fun reflecting on their business and drafting creative lines to complete the cartoons. Because of all the positive feedback we received, we decided to offer fans yet another opportunity to join the fun.”

The contest is open to anyone involved in retail, including retailers, brokers, investors, landlords, and other industry professionals, who should submit their entries on the Facebook page by October 10. Kimco will select two winners and publish the cartoons and winning captions in the company's 2015 REIToons wall calendar. Winners will be announced at the ICSC New York National Conference on December 8, and receive a $1,000 American Express gift card and a free calendar.

Sounds like a pretty good – and fun – deal to me.
