WASHINGTON, DC—Rockville, MD-based Grunley Construction Co. has been selected to renovate the Watergate Hotel here. The $100-million project will increase the number of rooms at the storied hotel from 251 to 348.

Work will include gutting all 13 floors of the vacant, 277,000-square-foot building on Virginia Avenue NW. The project calls for the replacement of plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems and installing high-end, imported finishes, according to the Washington Business Journal.

The renovation also will include two new restaurants, renovated ballrooms and spa and fitness areas. The hotel, owned by Euro Capital Properties, is expected to open in the summer of 2015.

Last week, Grunley and Shalom Baranes were awarded a $139-million design-build contract to renovate the Center Building at St. Elizabeths for the Department of Homeland Security headquarters. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
