SHORT HILLS, NJ—General contractor, construction manager and design builder Hollister Construction Services is modernizing The Pingry School's Lower School, an independent coeducational K-5 day school in Short Hills, NJ. The Lower School prepares students for the school's Basking Ridge, NJ, campus where they continue their education.

“The goal of this modernization project is to promote a higher level of learning and teaching. Therefore, this project's emphasis is on creating 'learning neighborhoods,' more collaborative learning spaces to match the school's curriculum centered on hands-on experiences,” says Keith Lovas, project manager for Hollister.

Teamed with Strategic Building Solutions, the owner's representative, and edm, the architect and engineer, Hollister is working on the two-phase, 14,000 square foot assignment that represents a new addition within an existing courtyard space, allowing the school to redesign its space to help teachers maximize their students' learning experience.

The project includes all the foundations, structures and interior finishes for the new addition as well as a complete refurbishment of the adjacent existing building spaces. The project also includes extensive mechanical work, including the addition of a new chiller and cooling tower as well as raising the existing roof to become a clerestory.

“Phase two of the construction will include the addition of new classrooms, a new common student space, two new science classrooms with labs, new bathrooms and exterior stonework,” says Lovas.
