HOUSTON--Memorial Hermann Healthcare System (MHHS) has selected Dallas-based Balfour Beatty Construction to provide pre-construction and construction services for a major renovation and expansion of the Texas Medical Center campus.
“Balfour Beatty is proud of our 27-year history of service to Memorial Hermann Healthcare System (MHHS), and we are truly honored to help MHHS achieve their vision of expanded healthcare services for the greater Houston area,” Doug Jones, regional CEO of Balfour Beatty Construction, told GlobeSt.com.
The master plan project includes construction of the Hermann Pavilion 2, a 17-story hospital that will provide the Texas Medical Center with more than one million square feet of expanded emergency room, operating room, intensive care and administrative-support capacity. The hospital will include 160 additional new inpatient beds (plus 71 replacement beds) and 24 new operating rooms, with six additional shell space floors for future patient bed expansion. A helipad on the roof of the hospital will provide expanded capacity for the Memorial Hermann air ambulance.
The construction of a new six-story parking and infrastructure building will provide additional parking, future space for a new kitchen service, and the expansion of hospital heating, cooling and emergency generator systems.
Balfour Beatty has a 27-year history with MHHS and has performed more than 225 improvement projects in support of the MHHS' mission.
