WASHINGTON, DC—The Armed Forces Retirement Home, an independent federal agency that operates from a trust fund and is not subject to appropriations, has identified approximately 80 acres on the southeast portion of its campus here for private-sector development, and is planning to issue a Request for Proposal for the project.

A Master Plan for this project was endorsed by the National Capital Planning Commission in 2008. Now the Armed Forces Retirement Home is getting set to move forward with development of this area.

It will hold a meeting to discuss the forthcoming proposal on Oct 22 at the Armed Forces Retirement Home Scott Building Community Center, located at 140 Rock Creek Church Rd., NW. Speakers will include Steve McManus, COO of AFRH and Tim Sheckler, director of General Services Administration's Real Property Utilization and Disposal Division for the National Capital Region. Also, experts from JLL, Stantec, and Preserve/Scapes will have the floor for discussion as well.

The AFRH is located on 272 acres, close to Catholic University, Trinity Washington University, Howard University, Children's National Medical Center, the VA Medical Center, the National Rehabilitation Hospital, the Washington Hospital Center and the National Zoo.

The home itself is within a few miles of four Metro stations.
