PORTLAND, OR—With more than 33 years in the commercial real estate business, Beggs & Simpson Cos.' L. Jan Robertson has seen the roles of women steadily expand and evolve. “In the early 1980s, women mostly held support positions, with a few roles in property management. Today, women occupy every facet of the business, but a majority of women's positions are still within property management,” she says.
Robertson, CEO, who was recently named one of Real Estate Forum's Women of Influence candidates, says that “Encouraging more women into riskier roles remains a challenge, but guided by education and opportunity, women can achieve undeniable success.”
Her success has only been an open invitation for other women to proactively seek opportunities, and in the past three years, she has witnessed increased participation. “The industry will continue to adapt and grow under women's leadership”
