LOS ANGELES—PCL Construction and Morley Builders have completed a $115.6-million tenant improvement project on the Wasserman Building at UCLA, a research and patient-care facility development dedicated by Eddie and Lew Wasserman. PCL Construction built out the interior of the building while Morley Builders handled the exterior of the project. Richard Meier and Partners Architects served as the project's designers.

The 83,000 square feet of tenant improvements on the six-story building made room for the Department of Neurosurgery and Institute of Urologic Oncology and expanded the Jules Stein Eye Institute. The lower and plaza levels house operating rooms, patient prep, recovery space, outpatient eye surgery support, central processing, a medical gas tank farm and a pharmacy, while the remaining space in the building houses clinics, procedure rooms, diagnostic rooms, private offices, a surgical training laboratory, conference space and telemedicine room. The contractors were unable to provide a comment before the publication of this story.

The tenant improvements earned the building a LEED-Gold certification. The building is part of a trio of similar facilities on the campus that include the Jules Stein Eye Institute and the Doris Stein Eye Research Center. According to Hon. Sebastian Ridley-Thomas, Assembly Member of the 54th District, the project also had economic benefits thanks to the contractors' use of local subcontractors and suppliers.

PCL Construction is an expert in renovating landmark Los Angeles properties. Earlier this year, the construction company led the $150 million renovation of Dodger Stadium. The renovations include new restaurants and concession stands, entrance gates on the north side of the stadium and a new visiting team clubhouse near the visiting dugout.
