PHOENIX—Neil Carolan, senior vice president of business development for Rendina Companies will be moderating the Phoenix RealShare Healthcare Real Estate panel Provider Update: Examining the Evolving Needs of Hospital Systems. Carolan spent more than 25 years in hospital operations and has been in the developer world for one year. Joining him as panelists are Ross Caulum, assistant vice president of corporate real estate, Scripps Health; Winnie Fritz, senior vice president of clinical operations and services, HCCS Management of Nashville; and Manfred Steiner, managing director and principal, BGL Healthcare Transaction Advisors. RealShare Healthcare Real Estate will be held at The Phoenician in Scottsdale December 15-16.

Carolan will be hitting some hot topics.

Healthcare is trending toward more outpatient settings. “We need more ambulatory settings, not more beds. One question is what to do with the space the beds formerly occupied,” says Carolan. “Healthcare needs to be changing strategies. Patients will be experiencing a shorter length of hospital stay, if they go to the hospital at all. And technology is contributing to that shorter length of stay. Patients will be visiting ambulatory care centers and their needs will be met on a same-day basis more and more.”
