HOUSTON—Engineering firm JQ is branching out in the Houston area and beyond with a trio of notable projects that extend as far away as Corpus Christi.

“Opening an office in Houston has allowed us to bring our engineering expertise to this market and further expand across the southern region of Texas,” says Stephen H. Lucy, managing principal.

The developments include:

  • The Shops at Timberwilde Retail Center Located at the corner of Kuykendahl and Timberwilde Drive in Spring, the 20,200-square-foot retail center will be built utilizing brick-clad tilt-wall construction. JQ has been engaged to provide structural engineering for the project. Construction documents were completed in October 2014. The builder is Arrowmont Constructors and Ryden Architecture is the architectural firm of record.
  • Helfman Field at Caress Stadium The Emery/Weiner School is located on Stella Link Road in Houston. JQ provided structural engineering for the Caress Athletic Stadium amenities building, including press box, locker rooms and training facility. The construction documents were completed in November 2014. PBK Sports is the architect and Mission Constructors is the general contractor.
  • New Dining Hall, Texas A&M University The new, 20,000-square-foot Islander Dining Hall at Texas A&M Corpus Christi is the campus' first dining hall. While the inside dining space can accommodate up to 450 students, the exterior dining plaza can comfortably seat another 80 students in a landscaped “back porch” setting. The dining hall features five unique serving stations inspired by Chartwell's Pulse on Dining concept and is complemented by five dining areas where students can experience a different dining atmosphere each day of the school week. The total project cost is approximately $8 million. JQ is providing structural engineering services. The architect is Kirksey Architecture.

“We are excited about these new clients and projects, and the opportunities to continue to grow here,” Matthew J. Connor, business development manager in JQ's Houston office, told GlobeSt.com.
