SEATTLE—Colliers International has appointed Andrew Nelson as chief economist, USA. With a wealth of experience in the financial sector, Nelson will focus on developing economic and market perspectives for Colliers and will serve as a strategic advisor to clients, the firm said. “We are pleased to have Andrew join our team as chief economist for the US,” said Craig Robinson, president, USA. “He is a strategic addition to our platform and leadership team, bringing deep and diverse experiences that span both occupiers and investors of real estate globally. Our clients are increasingly looking to us for thought leadership and advisory services that inform their real estate strategies. Andrew addresses this client need in a very exciting way.” Nelson will also lead Colliers International’s US research team in providing insight, thought leadership and guidance about commercial real estate, capital markets and financial investment and related sectors. “I am thrilled to be joining a firm known for outstanding, informed client services as well as in-depth research resources and look forward to advising Colliers International and our clients on the ever-dynamic economic trends and climate,” Nelson said. Prior to joining Colliers International Nelson held a variety of leadership positions in both the public and private sectors. Prior to his most recent position as director of research and strategy in the Americas at Deutsche Asset & Wealth Management, Nelson was VP of HOK Advance Strategies. In this role, he served as national practice leader of portfolio services, focusing on corporate real estate departments and public agencies. As a community builder fellow at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, he led development of the integrated analysis system for HUD’s first online public housing assessment system. Previously, Nelson also directed a construction-lending program for the World Bank in Russia and managed the regional real estate consulting practice at Deloitte & Touche in San Francisco. Nelson holds a master of city and regional planning from Harvard University and is the author of numerous articles on real estate sustainability, retail sector dynamics and other topics in property economics, market research and demographics. Among other industry involvement, Nelson sits on the editorial board of the Journal for Sustainable Real Estate and is the outgoing chair of the North American Research Task Force for the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). Nelson is also a certified general real estate appraiser in California and a member of the Research Advisory Council for the U.S. Green Building Council.
