LOS ANGELES—Yahoo has signed a 130,000-sqaure-foot lease with Tishman Speyer at the Collective Campus in Playa Vista, CA. The lease will move the tech giant's offices from Santa Monica to Los Angeles, along with 400 of its employees.
The announcement came out of Mayor Eric Garcetti's office. The Mayor has been pushing for companies to migrate into the city. “I'm proud that Yahoo is moving to Los Angeles and sending a strong message to the business community that our city is where the next big thing is going to be,” says Mayor Garcetti. “This move proves that L.A. is accelerating as a center of technology and entertainment, to the benefit of our overall economy and every Angeleno."
John Tipton and Sahar Bina of Allen Matkins provided legal counsel to Tishman Speyer, while Charlie Seaman of Reed Smith represented Yahoo in the transaction. We were unable to get a comment any of the parties involved before the publication of this story, but do plan to update the story as more information becomes available.
Yahoo plans to move to the new location in the fall of this year. The long-term lease will accommodate 400 employees from the Santa Monica offices as well as provide room for future growth. There is no information on whether or not Yahoo plans to close its Santa Monica offices completely, where the company has been located since 2005.
Yahoo is the latest tech and media company to plant new roots in Los Angeles. Late last year, Viacom announced plans to relocate its Santa Monica offices to the new Columbia Square development in Hollywood.
