PHOENIX—The Arizona Department of Child Safety leased 27,340 square feet at One MacDonald Center, 1 N. MacDonald Drive in Mesa. DCS leased the first, third, and fourth floors and now brings One MacDonald Center to 92% occupancy.

DTZ associate vice presidents Gregg Sherman and Scott Isacksen represented the landlord, Omniment MacDonald, LP, during the lease negotiations. DCS represented itself in the transaction.

One MacDonald Center is located at the northeast corner of Main Street and MacDonald Drive in historic Downtown Mesa, and is adjacent to the 3.1 mile extension of the Valley Metro Light Rail. When completed in the fall of 2015, there will be a Light Rail station at Center and Main, one block from the building. The 55,416-square-foot One MacDonald Center was renovated in 2005.

Sherman tells GlobeSt.com, “Being close to city government was a key factor for DCS, as was public transportation, and parking was a large issue. There is one parking garage for the building that had served city employees. The city actually worked with DCS to reroute some of their employee parking to accommodate the tenant.”
