Part 2 of 2

SAN FRANCISCO—As GlobeSt.com previously reported, HGA recently acquired San Jose, CA-based ReelGrobman, a leader in the corporate interiors arena. Founded in 1953, HGA has helped shape the architectural landscape of communities throughout the US from California to Washington, D.C.

The national firm is recognized for contributions including landmarks such as the General Mills Headquarters in Minneapolis, Minnesota; Valley Performing Arts Center at California State University, Northridge in Northridge, California; the Minnesota State Capitol restoration in Saint Paul, Minnesota; and Lucille Packard Children's Hospital in Palo Alto, California. In part two of this EXCLUSIVE Q&A with the firm's CEO, Daniel Avchen, we chat about the full scope of what this means for them, how they have embraced expansion by acquisition strategy and what the future holds for the Bay Area.

GlobeSt.com: This is HGA's fifth acquisition in 15 years. Why has HGA embraced the expansion-by-acquisition strategy? How has it been made successful?

Daniel Avchen: HGA's acquisitions have been successful because both firms invest the time to make sure it is an excellent strategic move and that our cultures - in this case, based on strong design and client centric experiences - are a great match.

GlobeSt.com: What is the future for HGA in the Bay Area?

Avchen: We are optimistic about the HGA's future in the Bay Area. HGA already has a strong presence in California (Los Angeles, San Francisco and Sacramento) with a practice that focuses on healthcare, community, arts and education, and now we are adding depth to our corporate and interiors services capabilities. We are positioned to serve all markets in this dynamic economy that we feel will continue to see rapid growth.

GlobeSt.com: What is in store in the Bay Area in 2015 that made this time, just after the New Year, an ideal time to make this move? Do you see significant market growth in store this year?

Avchen: We've been looking for a firm with which to bring our corporate environments focus to California. We were fortunate that we learned of ReelGrobman's interest in joining forces with a firm like ours, giving them increased capability and capacity, and also fortunate that we could get the deal done by year-end. The corporate market in the Bay Area is vibrant and a perfect spring board to expand this area of our expertise to all of California.
