NEW YORK CITY—CBRE has promoted Richard Hodos—a 28-year veteran of retail real estate—to vice chairman. He joined the company in 2007 and last year was awarded the Real Estate Board of New York's Most Ingenious Retail Deal of the Year award for representing Ralph Lauren in 2013 in its 38,000-square-foot lease at 711 Fifth Ave., its Polo flagship.

“Richard has richly earned a rare retail vice chairmanship with CBRE through his amazing track record of representing high-end retail tenants in Manhattan, particularly in the much-desired upper Madison Avenue and Fifth Avenue retail corridors,” says Matthew Van Buren, president, CBRE New York tri-state region.

Among Hodos' recent notable transactions and assignments are the current marketing of 28,000 square feet of retail space at 300 Lafayette St., a new SoHo development, on behalf of Related Cos. and Larga Vista Cos.; Microsoft's 21,000-square-foot lease at 677 Fifth Ave.; Coach's 6,200-square-foot renewal at 595 Madison Ave. and Qatar Luxury Group's 6,500-square-foot lease at 680 Madison Ave.

“In a true global retail destination like Manhattan, Richard stands out as one of the most experienced, trusted and successful brokerage professionals for national and international prime brands to turn to for great advice and execution in a complicated and highly competitive market,” adds Anthony Buono, CBRE executive managing director for retail services, Americas.

Hodos has represented tenants such as Apple, Calvin Klein, Gap, J. Crew, Sephora, Tiffany & Co., Barneys New York, Coach, Tory Burch and L Brands (Victoria's Secret, Henri Bendel and Bath & Body Works).

In the late 1990s, Hodos was influential in the re-merchandising of Fifth Avenue. He represented the Onassis Foundation, the landlord, in bringing Versace, A/X Armani Exchange and Gant to the block front between 51st and 52nd streets on Fifth avenue's “Gold Coast.” He also represented the Onassis Foundation in renewing Cartier in its famed flagship location. In the 2000s, Hodos represented Façonnable in its deal with Tishman Speyer at Rockefeller Center and he represented Cole Haan in its Rockefeller Center expansion, with both stores located on Fifth avenue.

Prior to joining CBRE, Hodos served as president and co-founder of Madison HGCD. He has represented landlords such as Brookfield Properties at Brookfield Place, Goldman Sachs at 200 West St. and Hearst Communications at 300 West 57th St. in leasing the retail space in their corporate headquarters buildings.

Hodos represented more retailers than any other broker in the merchandising of the Time Warner Center (Related Cos.) and the re-merchandising at Rockefeller Center (Tishman Speyer Properties).
