AUSTIN—Austin-based Whole Foods Market officially opened its first store in The Woodlands yesterday.

The grocery store is located in Hughes Landing, a 66-acre mixed-use development to be comprised of a hotel, office and retail tenants, and multifamily units.

“Whole Foods Market and Starbucks are the first retailers to open in Hughes Landing which starts the momentum in the mixed-use development," says Rip Reynolds, director of leasing and commercial land for The Howard Hughes Corp. "Several more retailers will open in Hughes Landing within the next few weeks, including Pier 1 Imports, Kriser's Natural Pet Store, Escalantes Fine Tex-Mex & Tequila restaurant and Local Pour gastropub. Our plan for Hughes Landing is to create a vibrant waterfront community with class A office space, retail, restaurants and entertainment, multifamily residences like One Lakes Edge scheduled to open in April, and an all-suites Embassy Suites to open later this year.”
