OAK BROOK, IL—Inland American Real Estate Trust, Inc., a self-managed REIT, has just changed its name to InvenTrust Properties Corp. Founded in 2005, the trust established its independence from the Inland group of companies on December 31, 2014 and its officials say the name switch was a necessary step in this transition.

“The time was right to highlight and develop a brand independent from our sponsor,” Thomas P. McGuinness, president and chief executive officer of InvenTrust, tells GlobeSt.com.

In addition, the company has adopted a new logo that McGuinness says emphasizes its leading role in the open air shopping center space. The logo consists of two interfacing half circles and symbolizes the energy, collaboration, forward motion and InvenTrust's strong connections to its retailers. As of December 31, the retail portfolio, including joint venture properties, consists of 125 open air centers in 24 states, with over 18 million square feet of space.
