HOUSTON—Houston is getting a “grand” new development.

Tilman J. Fertitta has broken ground on The Post Oak, the first vertical mixed-use, master-planned project in the city that will combine hotel, office, residential, retail and restaurant offerings all in one tower. The luxurious project will be located in the Galleria submarket.

“I've always envisioned a top-class, luxury hotel next to our Landry's headquarters, and this vertical, 35-story mixed-use tower will be the most grand,” Fertitta told GlobeSt.com.

Rising above the 10-acre mixed-use development will be a 35-story tower with an adjacent expansive ballroom and conference center. In addition to the already-existing magnificent oak trees on the property, Fertitta is planning to spend north of $1 million to transplant and install large specimen oak trees to further complement the project.

“We welcome this addition to the Galleria and Uptown area, Houston's premier destination for fashion, fine dining, luxury hotels, prominent office addresses and elegant high-rise living,” says John Breeding, president of Uptown Houston District. “Tilman Fertitta is setting the standard for luxury development. We are so pleased he has chosen the Uptown district as the area to build this incredible project.”

Tellepsen is the general contractor for the development, while Gensler is the master design architect. The 650,000-square-foot tower will accommodate 240-luxury hotel rooms, more than 120,000 square feet of boutique office space and 22-residential apartment units. Unique amenities will include a two-story spa and salon, signature restaurants and retail and 1,000-plus parking spaces.

Eleven stories in The Post Oak tower are designated for low-density, class A, commercial office space. Office tenants will enjoy exclusive 24-hour services including catering and room service and corporate concierge.

In addition, two noted restaurants will enhance the development and will be premiering early in the spring of 2017. Mastro's Steakhouse will make its Texas debut in Houston with a 10,000-square-foot restaurant and Willie G's Seafood & Steaks, a Houston institution and favorite seafood restaurant for more than 35 years, will relocate to the development.
