AMES, IA—Until last year, the Campustown neighborhood adjacent to Iowa State University had not seen new student housing since 2004. But in the past year, developers here have broken ground on a host of projects, making this school one of the most active in the Midwest when it comes to providing new amenity-rich student housing.

“ISU is very attractive for both students and parents as 95% of students have a job within six months of graduation,” Robert V. Gilbane, chairman and chief executive officer of Gilbane Development Co., tells GlobeSt.com. As a result, it has seen “eight consecutive years of record growth and enrollment.” In 2014, for example, the school had 34,732 students, up 4.5% from 2013.

Gilbane just launched a new six-story project called The Edge, which will add about 290 brand new beds in two, three and four-bedroom fully furnished apartment units. Along with 23Twenty Lincoln and University Towers, two other company-owned properties, Gilbane will offer it all under one brand known as BlockONE.
