PASADENA, CA—DPR Construction has broken ground on Shriners Hospital for Children, a state-of-the-art and sustainable medical center in Pasadena, CA. DPR is serving as the contractor of the project, which is being developed in partnership with CO Architects & SRG Partnership. The development will cost $60 million and is expected to open in mid 2017.

“DPR Construction's vision for the project is to construct a sustainable, innovative and technologically advanced outpatient medical facility that helps our customer transform children's lives through exceptional healthcare," Ron Rendina, director of Healthcare for DPR Construction Southern California, tells GlobeSt.com, while David R. Doan, P.G.M., chairman of the board of governors at Shriners Hospitals for Children—Los Angeles, adds, “The new location will enhance the partnership between Shriners for Children Medical Center and Huntington Memorial Hospital to better serve the pediatric specialty care needs of Pasadena, the greater San Gabriel Valley, and across the Southwest. Working together, the two Facilities will be able to reach more children in need of expert care and serve them even more efficiently and effectively.”

To build the new medical center, DPR Construction will demolish two one-story buildings and build 75,000 square feet of new construction. The new outpatient care facility will feature an ambulatory surgical center for the medical center's clinical, diagnostic, outpatient surgery and rehabilitation units. The property will also include a three-story subterranean parking garage with 250 car stalls. The hospital will bring medical services to millions of children throughout the Southwest region.

There have been several new construction medical developments to rise from the ground in recent months. McCarthy Building Cos. recently completed the $480 million Richard Lundquist Tower at Torrance Memorial. The contractor completed the project four months early and $10 million under budget. The 390,000-square-foot tower features 256 private rooms and 18 surgical and interventional rooms as well as the South Bay's first hybrid operating room.
