TUSTIN, CA—Miracles for Kids has begun the renovation of a multi-unit apartment building that will offer subsidized housing to families with children battling chronic or life-threatening illnesses. Named Miracle Manor, the property is an extension of the organization's mission to providing financial aid and stability to Orange County's most at-risk families.

Located less than a mile from CHOC Hospital in Orange, CA, Miracle Manor encompasses 12 spacious two- and three-bedroom units. Miracles for Kids purchased the property in late December 2014 and will partner with HomeAid and Institute of Real Estate Management to renovate Miracle Manor in time for a projected move-in date of August 1.

“Fighting a life-threatening illness requires an immense time commitment and often results in depleted savings or income loss,” said Autumn Strier, CEO of Miracles for Kids. “Miracle Manor will provide these families with not just housing stability but also convenient access to CHOC Hospital and a family-friendly community during their time of need.”

Miracles for Kids' community partners HomeAid and IREM will play an integral role in financing and facilitating the Miracle Manor renovations, which are currently valued at nearly $760,000. The planned remodel includes fresh interior and exterior paint, structural improvements to the individual units, new furniture, and a revamped family-friendly outdoor space.

"As an outreach founded by homebuilders, HomeAid Orange County's mission to end homelessness fits right in with the purpose of Miracle Manor,” said Scott Larson, HomeAid executive director. “The ability to be involved with Miracles for Kids and IREM in providing a dignified and restorative home for these families at risk of losing their housing is core to the purpose of HomeAid. We are proud to be able to be a part of this truly needed and innovative development that will impact lives for years to come."

"IREM Orange County's community outreach program, Helping Hands, has provided a positive impact on many non-profit organizations through donated renovation work,” said IREM OC Chapter president, Michael Brown. “Our Friends of IREM, our valuable service providers, and property managers have pooled their resources together to improve buildings around the community that help improve the quality of life for the less fortunate. This year we are honored to team up with HomeAid and Miracles for Kids to help renovate Miracle Manor."

Prospective Miracle Manor residents will be identified through the organization's existing grant program and will be eligible for a month-to-month lease during their child's course of treatment. In addition to this new housing program, Miracles for Kids will continue to offer financial support, basic food and home necessities, and recreational activities for the families they serve. Since 2002, Miracles for Kids has provided aid to over 840 families with children battling life-threatening illnesses.

“Despite a three percent vacancy rate and premium real estate prices, Miracles for Kids was able to leverage private donor and banking relationships to secure the purchase of Miracle Manor at below-market rates,” said Strier. “Miracles for Kids is thrilled for the opportunity to extend our impact in Orange County, and we are grateful that our partners HomeAid and IREM have made it possible to offer this resource to our families.”

Miracles for Kids is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving children with life-threatening illnesses and the families that care for them.
