MONTVALE, NJ—A&P has sold 25 New York area stores to Stop & Shop, and published a list of the 25 stores that will be closing as a consequence of the grocery chain's bankruptcy filing Monday. Meanwhile, the union representing some 30,000 of the grocery chain's employees issued a statement calling on the firm and prospective buyers to “do what is right” for union members and their families.
Quincy, MA-based Stop & Shop Supermarket Company said late Monday it had an agreement to pay $146 million to acquire 25 A&P, Pathmark, and Waldbaums stores in the greater New York area and convert them to the Stop & Shop brand.
