In many major cities Uber, the car service that is relied upon by legions of execs and professionals, as well as mom and dad, is under attack on many fronts. Most recently, New York City’s Mayor put forward legislation to limit Uber service in NYC in a protectionist move on behalf primarily of yellow cabs who are rarely there when you need them. By the way, this is the same Mayor who wants to ban beloved horses and buggies from Central Park.

In any event, now national politicians like Hilary Clinton, are stumping against the “so called Gig economy” that is  fostered by companies like Uber who supposedly exploit workers by classifying them as part time contractors without benefits and protection. Is she serious? Uber enables drivers to leverage their business with Uber and chose their hours and where they work, and customers who are able to summon a ride via an App at will instead of trying to hail a cab in vain as they flash their off duty sign. This kind of protectionism is going to stifle growth and creativity. Fortunately, most attempts like those put forward by NYC and by national politicos ultimately fail because it is not in the public good.
