NEW YORK CITY—Two industry veterans have launched a real estate investment and advisory firm here.Both Gary M. Tischler and Richard A.C. Coles, who have worked together for nearly two decades, will jointly serve as managing principals of Vanbarton Group.

Recent transactions already completed and owned by Vanbarton include the conversion of an office building in the Financial District that spans more than 500,000 square feet into a residential rental property with 565 units and 10,000 square feet of street level retail, the inking of a contract to purchase the leasehold at 31 Penn Plaza and, in Miami, a $46 million mezzanine loan to JDS Development Group to finance the pre-construction activities of a 250,000-square-foot 125 unit condominium.

Vanbarton's current roster of separate account clients is comprised of large institutional investors, including public and corporate pension plans. The firm's client-centric culture is rooted in its commitment to design and managing the construction of client portfolios to meet varying, attractive risk-adjusted opportunities presented throughout real estate cycles.

Vanbarton specializes in an integrated, tactical approach to debt and equity investing, and currently owns and manages a combined debt and equity portfolio comprised of 42 assets located in 16 states, spanning the multi-family, retail, office and hospitality sectors. Tischler and Coles are joined by a team of 48 professionals based in the firm's New York headquarters and its San Francisco corporate office.

The principals and senior management at Vanbarton Group bring their experience in sourcing and executing value-to-core, core plus, value-add and opportunistic equity strategies, as well as pursuing opportunities in the debt/credit markets through the origination and acquisition of first mortgages, junior participations, mezzanine debt, preferred equity and securitized debt.
