SAN MATEO, CA–The US Green Building Council (USGBC) has named TCA Architects' mixed-use residential community, 888 North San Mateo Drive, the 2014 LEED Outstanding Multifamily Project of the Year. The annual LEED Awards recognize multifamily communities that exemplify green living on a national scale and best-in-class projects, developers and homebuilders for outstanding leadership in residential green building.

Headquartered in Washington D.C., USGBC is an organization dedicated to transforming the way buildings and communities are designed, built and operated by ensuring sustainable practices and materials are utilized throughout. USGBC determines if a project qualifies as LEED certified based on the design, construction, operations and maintenance of resource-efficient, high-performing, cost-effective buildings.

Thom Cox, AIA, LEED AP, CEO and managing partner of TCA Architects, tells GlobeSt.com: "888 San Mateo was awarded LEED Platinum due to thoughtful design considerations and the dogged determination of the developer, Sares Regis, to see it through."

888 San Mateo is a LEED platinum-certified community offering 158 contemporary apartment homes. Having opened in 2014 at 75% leased, 888 San Mateo embodies the fact that green living can also be luxurious. Each residence is equipped with low-volume water fixtures and Energy Star appliances, and all landscaping features a variety of drought-resistant and California-native plants to reduce water usage.

The transit-oriented development is situated within walking distance of the Burlingame Caltrain Station as well as bus route 292, which provides service to and from San Francisco. Downtown San Mateo and Burlingame provide plenty of scenic bikeways and 888 San Mateo's bike storage encourage getting around without using a car.

The community features amenities that resonate with tenants of all generations, such as a fitness center with cardio theater; heated pool and whirlpool spa; yoga and Pilates studio; an outdoor kitchen with barbecue and dining area; dog wash station and bark park; children's play area; outdoor lounge with fireplace; Internet throughout common areas; business center with conference room; and a club room with entertainment media, catering kitchen and billiards.

TCA Architects' collaborative approach and technological expertise have resulted in award-winning, sustainable, high-density multifamily projects that respect communities and the environment. With more than 7,000 Bay Area residential units currently in development, the firm is one of Northern California's fastest growing, master planning multifamily architectural firms.
