LAS VEGAS—Residents of the Las Vegas Valley have been invited by the Las Vegas city officials and planners to help select one of three proposed vision statements developed for the new downtown Las Vegas master plan. Public preference regarding these statements will be used to further inform and shape the plan prior to finalization next spring. In addition two public meetings are scheduled for Oct. 1 to inform the public and seek further input.

Descriptions of the three plans can be found at http://www.visionlv.com/#vision-survey.

The three plans, developed with professional consultants and public input, are identified as:

· Downtown Las Vegas: The Legend Reinvented

· Downtown Las Vegas: The Diverse City

· Downtown Las Vegas: A Co-Created City

“The statements were developed with considerable public input by RTKL, a leading global architecture and urban design firm, whose representatives, along with a team of local and national experts, are working to update a plan to better facilitate the physical, social and economic development of downtown Las Vegas over the next 20 years,” the city said in a recent statement.

Beginning last fall, RTKL conducted more than 100 stakeholder interviews, held public outreach meetings in January and May and met with numerous community and city leaders over the last several months.

Two public meetings are planned for October 1 at Fifth Street School from 2 to 4 p.m. and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The goal of this outreach is to better understand the current downtown landscape and gather feedback and public input on the challenges and opportunities for downtown.

“The revitalization of downtown Las Vegas in recent years has been nothing short of remarkable,” said Tom Perrigo, director of planning for the city. “Today, the region is at a crossroads as we endeavor to ensure the downtown continues to evolve and grow to its fullest potential as the true heart of our city. We encourage everyone to take a minute to participate in this quick online survey and to stay connected to our planning efforts by attending meetings and providing input on the plan over the next several months.”

The city of Las Vegas will conduct market research and outreach on a more regular basis beginning in the fall of 2015. It is hoped that the effort will assist the city council, city manager and city leaders gain a better understanding of the sentiment of citizens throughout the city. The Downtown Master Plan is one of several initiatives that are part of a city-wide master planning effort, “City By Design,” that the city says is creating a strategic vision for its future.
