CHULA VISTA, CA—Ground work has shifted into high gear at Millenia, the future city center of South County, with construction of a gateway shopping center, hotel, condominium neighborhoods, and mixed-use apartments set to start next year.

“Grading is complete and major roads and most infrastructure are in place for the first phase of development,” said Todd Galarneau, executive vice president of Meridian Development, which is managing development of the 210-acre masterplan for the property owner Stratford Land. Stratford has been a financial partner at Millenia since February 2011 and assumed full ownership earlier this year.

Grading for the balance of the community is expected to start in December, said Galarneau, who has lead the planning effort for Millenia for the past decade.
