SAN DIEGO—The San Diego-based development team L2HP, comprised of Lankford & Associates, HP Investors and Hensel Phelps, has just unveiled its master plan for Makers Quarter.

Makers Quarter is a neighborhood within downtown San Diego's East Village, distinguished by its creative ethos and promotion of local artists and makers. Makers Quarter is also home to the popular outdoor community venues, SILO and SMARTS Farm; and various innovative leaders including FabLab San Diego, Urban Discovery Academy, and Fuse Integration.

L2HP's master plan, revealed Thrusday that over the next 3-7 years, Makers Quarter will evolve into a neighborhood designed to attract forward-thinking companies and retailers, surrounded by a dynamic, creative workforce. The neighborhood will offer over more than 1 million square feet of office space, 700,000 square feet of residential, and 60,000 square feet of open space. Moreover, Makers Quarter will be amenitized by best-in-class local and national restaurants, breweries, entertainment venues and retailers.

L2HP also announced a timeline for its first two groundbreakings in Makers Quarter. The first office building will start construction in the spring of 2016. This 50,000 square foot building, referred to as the “Collaborative Office Hub,” will be differentiated by its design and architecture, and built to inspire creativity and collaboration through its light-filled open layout and interconnected outdoor circulation core.

L2HP has partnered with Alliance Residential Company for Makers Quarter's first residential project, called Broadstone Makers Quarter. The 265-unit mixed-use project will break ground this fall, and include 5,100 square feet of retail space.

“Makers Quarter offers the environment that Downtown San Diego needs in order to attract an educated, millennial workforce. Its development will strengthen our image as a city that embraces culture, creativity and cutting-edge innovation,” said Kris Michell, CEO of the Downtown San Diego Partnership.

As development of Makers Quarter continues, SILO and Smarts Farm will remain integral parts of the community, and continue shaping the neighborhood's evolution. “We are laser focused on attracting the world's most innovative companies and brightest talent into Makers Quarter, said Robert Lankford, President and CEO of Lankford & Associates. “To that end, we are actively recruiting tenants that fit for our neighborhood's culture, and can hasten San Diego's progress towards becoming America's most innovative city.”
