After the carnage of the “Great Recession,” who thought the homebuilding industry would recover from forecasts that there was a 20-year oversupply of inventory? Well, it seems that the forecasters were wrong again as The National Association of Home Builders housing market index climbed to a 10-year high in October, a sign of full recovery and momentum for one of the most important indicators for the health of the economy.

So this raises the question if there is an end in sight for the current economic expansion. According to the collective wisdom of economists, it’s on track to have a lifespan of about nine years, which gives the homebuilding industry runway for continued growth. This estimate comes from Bloomberg, which just released a survey of 31 economists forecasting that the next recession will hit in 2018. If the pundits are right, that gives us two years to batten down the hatches and ready for a bear economy.
