SAN FRANCISCO—A topping-out ceremony for 340 Fremont, the 40-story residential community in SoMa was held recently ahead of schedule, according to Jim Kelly, first vice president of development for Equity Residential. Construction on the for-lease multifamily high-rise began in April 2014 and is on schedule to be completed in July 2016. There will be 348 units in the building when completed.

Kelly tells Globest.com: "The topping out of 340 Fremont represents a significant milestone in the collaborative vision for the next generation of high-rise apartment living in SoMa. The articulated façade of 340 Fremont presents four different architectural interpretations, depending upon your viewing perspective. And more importantly for future residents, the expansive views of the city and Bay are truly spectacular, enhanced through its Rincon Hill location and the thoughtful architecture that maximizes those views within the residences.”

Onsite amenities include a clubhouse, outdoor courtyards, barbecues, a fitness center with yoga room, a business center, a lounge with demonstration kitchen, a dog spa and bike facilities with a repair room. The project includes three levels of below-grade parking.

“We've assembled an incredible team of local partners that has resulted in an innovative approach to high-rise urban living that is distinctively San Francisco. Suffolk Construction has done a tremendous job keeping this project ahead of schedule and their quality control has been fantastic,” he added.

During the course of construction, Suffolk Construction has utilized 35,575 cubic yards of concrete and 9.3 million pounds of reinforcing steel. The 40-story tower sits atop an eight-story base and inside the units, windows will extend from floor to ceiling to maximize views, balconies and bay windows.

“We are honored to be working with Equity Residential on such an iconic property that will be a spectacular addition to the San Francisco skyline. This incredible project has given us the opportunity to implement some of the most innovative processes, tools and technologies that will ultimately enable us to deliver 340 Fremont faster and more cost effectively with the highest quality,” says Andy Ball, West region president and CEO of Suffolk Construction, which is the general contractor.

San Francisco-based Handel Architects LLP is handling both the exterior and interior design, and Cliff Lowe Associates is the landscape architect.

“The views from 340 Fremont are absolutely incredible, and will clearly be one of the top reasons residents will be drawn to the tower,” adds Kelly.

As previously reported, residential projects are dominating the San Francisco skyline.
