NEW YORK CITY—Carl Hum will join the Real Estate Board of New York next month as SVP for management services and government affairs. He will be a principal member of REBNY's senior staff serving as the lead advocate on a broad portfolio of policy issues, including construction, building codes and regulations, building management, sustainability and energy policy, and federal policy.

Hum joins REBNY from Asian Americans Advancing Justice in Washington, DC, where he served as VP of policy and programs. In his new role, he will work with REBNY members, government officials and other stakeholders to promote policies that will expand New York City's economy, encourage the development and renovation of commercial and residential real property, enhance the city's appeal to investors and residents, and facilitate property management.

“Carl will be an outstanding asset to REBNY and our members,” says John H. Banks, III, REBNY president. “He brings great experience and a proven track record of managing and completing complex projects through consensus building, strategic communications and savvy, innovative problem-solving.”

“We are pleased to welcome Carl to the REBNY team,” adds Rob Speyer, REBNY chairman. “His skills, experience, and legal credentials will put REBNY in an even better position to accomplish the ambitious goals on our annual agenda.”

At AAJC, Hum led the organization's research and advocacy efforts on immigration reform, strengthening voting rights and ensuring broadband access. Previously, he served as executive director of the NYC Districting Commission from 2012 to 2013 and president and CEO of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce from 2007 to 2012.

In addition, under Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Hum led the Mayor's Office of Industrial and Manufacturing Businesses. His legal credentials include serving as special counsel for intergovernmental affairs and deputy general counsel at the NYC Dept. of Small Business Services and assistant district attorney at the New York County District Attorney's office.
