NEW YORK CITY—Clarion Partners has brought Eric Bergwall aboard as a managing director in the separate account portfolio management group. Bergwall most recently was interim CEO at Allianz Real Estate of America.

A 20-year-plus veteran of investment management, Bergwall also served as managing director and head of portfolio management at Allianz, overseeing an $8-billion debt portfolio and a $2-billion equity portfolio. He also co-chaired the firm's debt investment committee.

Before Allianz, Bergwall was responsible for originating debt and equity investments at ORIX Capital Markets. He also held senior positions at GE Real Estate, Concert Realty and ING Realty Partners. "Eric has built a long and successful track record and has a deep understanding of real estate investment management," says David Gilbert, president and CIO of Clarion Partners.

Separately, PERE reported last week that Clarion's majority owner, Lightyear Capital, was seeking to recapitalize its investment. Lightyear acquired the $38-billion real estate investment manager from ING Groep NV in June 2011 for $1000 million. A Clarion spokesman tells GlobeSt.com the firm has no comment on the PERE report.
