The digitalization of photography has wrought far reaching and seismic changes well beyond the demise of Kodak, and my favorite film, Kodachrome. As we contemplate the scope of change, and yes, the impact on real estate, one needs to couple digital technology with the smartphone, Instagram, and the vast proliferation of digital media exchanges like YouTube where family, friends, colleagues and consumers can access and share photography and video.

What got me thinking about this was a close friend who is a photographer for the National Geographic. He lamented recently that people's interest in photography is increasingly limited to what they can see on their iPhone. This got me thinking about the broader impact digital has had. First was the demise of the desk top photography book that helped to bring down the bookstore. Then the photo gallery. Of course how real estate is sold, how hotels are selected, how building security is managed; you name it, digital photography has had an extraordinary impact. If you think about it you'll come up with numerous other examples.

Pretty interesting, but you are probably more focused today on the Youtube clip on how to carve the turkey on Thursday afternoon. Happy Thanksgiving!
