HOUSTON—Renowned Japanese restaurant Roka Akor Steak, Seafood & Sushi has chosen Houston for its first location in Texas.
The restaurant has signed a lease for 6,591 square feet of ground floor space at 2929 Weslayan, the 40-story luxury residential building at the northeast corner of Weslayan and West Alabama streets. The company has other restaurants in Scottsdale, AZ., San Francisco, Chicago and Skokie, IL.
"2929 Weslayan is beautifully designed and stands out in Houston among the high rises," Sunny Mehra, Roka Akor vice president of development, told GlobeSt.com. "This space in particular has high glass windows, high ceilings and beautiful outdoor seating. This gives Roka Akor a blank canvas for designing the restaurant. The Roka Akor brand prides itself with being associated with luxury and this is prevalent with this association."
Developed in 2015 by PMRG, 2929 Weslayan features 254 multifamily units and 11,880 square feet of retail and restaurant space. Property amenities include a 20-foot high wall fountain in the lobby, rich stone and wood material palette throughout, heavily landscaped, half-acre terrace, resort-inspired pool, state-of-the-art fitness center and aqua lounge. Units range in size from 850 to 4,000 square feet. The building offers three penthouse levels, generous terraces, downtown views, direct-access elevators, and a signature restaurant and retail space.
James Namken, Kyle Knight and Edward Heap with The Weitzman Group represented PMRG in the lease. Mike Wheeler with Streetwise Retail Advisors represented the restaurant.
