SAN DIEGO—L2HP, a collaboration between Lankford & Associates, Hensel Phelps, and HP Investors, and their partner, StreetLights Residential, say the Civic San Diego Board of Directors unanimously approved the development permit for StreetLights Makers Quarter.

StreetLights Makers Quarter is a mixed-use development located at the corner of 16th and F Streets in Downtown San Diego's East Village, that embodies the ethos of Makers Quarter: Creative Culture. Collaborative Community. The complete project will include 295 residential units, over 20,000 square feet of retail, a pocket park on 15th Street, and 477 parking spaces. Over the past few years, members of the community and the development team have created a model for community engagement that informs the future. This applies directly to the design and planning of StreetLights Makers Quarter, which will feature 'THE SHOW,' an art panel installation at the gateway entrance to Downtown off of the MLK Jr. Freeway, and a highly programmed and activated pocket park.

"StreetLights Residential is excited to announce its first project on the West Coast. StreetLights focuses on creating community friendly, walkable neighborhoods across the country, and we believe our strategy aligns well with San Diego's urban planning," said StreetLights Residential's senior vice president of development, Michael Yanicelli. "Makers Quarter is a great fit for us. L2HP has done a tremendous job creating a neighborhood with a vision to be a thriving mixed-use district anchored by makers and innovators. There is already strong community engagement and a clear commitment to art within Makers Quarter. We are thrilled to continue building this commitment by integrating a functional community park, a meaningful art display for local artists, exciting lifestyle retail and our unique brand of residential units."

"Makers Quarter is the next innovation district in our region, and its evolution will enable Downtown to become a technology-based employment hub for all of San Diego. Thanks to Civic's approval yesterday, we'll not only break ground on our first office building next spring, we'll also move forward with the first phases of two planned residential projects: Broadstone Makers Quarter and StreetLights Makers Quarter," said Rob Lankford, president of Lankford & Associates.

Makers Quarter is a neighborhood comprised of Artists, Entrepreneurs, Innovators, and Makers, located in San Diego's East Village. The name "Makers Quarter" is inspired by the Maker Movement - a term used to describe the efforts of a community of independent designers, artists and innovators, who leverage the power of technology and shared resources to create original art, music, technology, and wares. Today, Makers Quarter serves as a catalyst for Downtown San Diego's East Village tech corridor. Over the next 2-7 years, Makers Quarter will evolve into one million square feet of mixed-use development, and serve as a technology-based employment and residential hub for Downtown San Diego.
