Edens Moves Forward on Old Town Project

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Some two years after it acquired the site, Edens reports it has partnered with Gables Residential to develop a 232-unit mixed-use project at 530 First Street in Alexandria, Va. Per Edens’ favored development model, the apartment homes will be on top of 50,000-square feet of retail. Edens acquired the 17,338-square foot Giant-anchored strip center in 2014. The purchase topped off a string of acquisitions the company made along that block in the Old Town North submarket. According to the site plan on Edens’ website, an “organic grocer/home furnishings store” is slated — or hoped to be slated — to take the space when the property has been redeveloped.
