Lauren Kelly Kelly: “People blend life and work more than ever, and we’re responding by providing unique and high-quality fitness and wellness services at the heart of our workplace community.”
NEWPORT BEACH, CA— Irvine Co. Office Properties is partnering with premier wellness and fitness providers in each of its markets, and technology will continue to play an increasingly important role, the firm’s SVP Lauren Kelly tells GlobeSt.com. As we recently reported , the firm has launched its flagship KINETIC facility here at Newport Center , which is designed to offer healthcare , fitness and wellness under one roof in a business setting, and plans to expand the concept across California this year. We spoke exclusively with Kelly about how KINETIC works and how it will evolve over time. GlobeSt.com: Please explain what KINETIC looks like and how it works. Kelly: The Newport Center flagship KINETIC features 17,000 square feet of health, fitness and wellness services under one roof for the first time—and it’s walking distance from 250 companies who employ 5,100 professionals. People blend life and work more than ever, and we’re responding by providing unique and high-quality fitness and wellness services at the heart of our workplace community. There are three key areas at the Newport Center KINETIC: an upscale fitness center with the latest equipment, exclusively for Irvine Co. office customers; the Zone , a popular fitness training studio operated by Active Wellness (its first in Orange County); and a medical clinic that offers lifestyle coaching, preventive care, skin health and medical care for common illnesses, injuries and chronic conditions.
KINETIC KINETIC offers an upscale fitness center, a Zone fitness training studio and a medical clinic.
GlobeSt.com: Irvine Co. has one of the nation’s largest portfolio of office buildings. Will we see KINETIC in other areas? Kelly: We plan to expand KINETIC across our coastal California portfolio, which includes workplace communities in Orange County, San Diego, Los Angeles and the Silicon Valley. KINETIC is designed for multi-tenant workplace communities. Each one will be customized based on the number of companies, employees and unique needs of each workplace community. KINETIC at Newport Center will likely be one our largest, but we plan to offer this fitness and wellness concept throughout our portfolio. GlobeSt.com: How do you see the concept evolving over time? Kelly: We are thrilled to have partnered with premier wellness and fitness providers in each of our markets. In San Diego, Scripps Health is our medical partner, for example, while Stanford Medical Center is our partner in Northern California and St. Joseph Hoag Health is our partner in Orange County. We also see technology as an important part of scaling KINETIC across our portfolio. People are increasingly using wearable activity trackers and other tools to personalize their wellness efforts. We are launching compatible technology that enables an individual to track their progress, participate in virtual group fitness and wellness challenges and sign up for and transact classes and events. It’s a great way to keep people engaged and motivated. GlobeSt.com: What else should our readers know about KINETIC? Kelly: Forward-thinking companies want to deliver a healthier workplace. This improves overall workforce health and retention.  It is also a win for business productivity and unlocks creativity and innovation. We hope to revolutionize workplace wellness with this new concept and are excited about the response so far. Before we had even opened, more than 250 people had joined KINETIC at Newport Center.
