AUSTIN, TX— AcademicWorks and Architectural Engineers Collaborative (AEC) have secured office space at the recently completed mixed-use development, Lamar Central . The office building is located at 38th Street and North Lamar Boulevard, and includes three floors of class-A office space and a ground-floor retail component. Highland Resources Inc. signed the tenants. “We’re always thrilled to have great local companies in the mix at Lamar Central, and AcademicWorks and AEC are no exception,” said David Bodenman , Highland Resources vice president. “We’ve received such a strong response to the building’s location and amenities from employers. I hope AcademicWorks and AEC will really enjoy everything Lamar Central has to offer.” AcademicWorks signed a five-year lease for 10,288 square feet on the third floor of the building. The company has approximately 40 employees and provides scholarship-management solutions for public and private universities, community colleges and foundations, and was recently named a best place to work by Fortune magazine. Currently operating on Shoal Creek Boulevard, AcademicWorks will move to its new space at Lamar Central late this summer. “Lamar Central’s prime location is within walking distance of numerous restaurants and Central Market,” said Joe Price , president and general counsel of Academic Works. “Highland has built an incredibly attractive building that includes great parking, an outdoor courtyard and retail on the ground floor.” AEC has signed an eight-year lease for approximately 3,945 square feet on the third floor of the building. The firm has 17 employees and provides structural engineering for commercial and public buildings. Notable work includes the Barbara Jordan Terminal at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, the Long Center, the Convention Center Expansion and the United States Courthouse . Move-in is scheduled for May 2016. “Lamar Central is a modern, sophisticated building centrally located in Austin,” said Chuck Naeve , professional engineer and principal at AEC. “The building and the location offer a creative energy that our team finds inspiring. Highland’s management team provides exceptional service and we look forward to a long, collaborative relationship.” Additional tenants include Kendra Scott Design, Regus, Westlake Dermatology, Pennybacker Capital and dining destinations Snooze Eatery and Chameleon Hospitality . Bodenman tells GlobeSt.com: “Both AcademicWorks and AEC will be utilizing the services of local architecture firms and contractors to build out their respective office spaces. I’m eager to see the final build outs; we designed Lamar Central to include tall ceilings and open floor plans so that tenants could really make it their own.”
