HOUSTON—The Houston District Council of ULI has named David Kim as executive director. Kim will collaborate with ULI Houston District Council and national organization to develop and execute strategies regarding development and land use policies. He will build upon ULI Houston's programs that include the real estate trends conference, development of distinction awards dinner and technical assistance panels.
“David brings to the role over 10 years of real estate experience, a keen understanding of Houston's unique strengths and challenges, and a passion for member service,” said Carleton Riser, president of Transwestern Development Company and ULI Houston District Council chair.
Kim joins ULI Houston from the city of Houston, where he served as deputy assistant director of the housing and community development department. There he identified ways to tackle food deserts and homelessness, sponsored a city-wide market value analysis, and administered grants from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. Kim previously practiced real estate law with Cochran Baker Williams & Matthiesen, developed single-family housing with Covenant Neighborhoods and began his career as a corporate law attorney with Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld.
Kim tells GlobeSt.com: “ULI has always been a convener, bringing together leaders in the real estate development community and best practices to the forefront. We want to continue that charge in 2016.”
A native Houstonian, Kim has built an extensive track record of local civic engagement. He serves as president of the Korean American Chamber of Commerce and previously served as treasurer of Houston Habitat for Humanity. Kim has participated in the American Leadership Forum, Leadership Houston, the Center for Houston's Future and the Kinder Institute's Connecting Communities initiative. In 2015, he received the Houston Business Journal 40 Under 40 award and a Marshall Memorial Fellowship.
He holds a bachelor of arts degree in History from Yale University and a law degree from Duke University. Kim succeeds Ann Taylor, who served as executive director from 2008 to 2015.
