Jan Hulahan Hulahan: “With our extensive new space, we are equipped to host larger functions.”
SAN DIEGO—The completed Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina renovation project will enable the hotel to offer more than 280,000 square feet of meeting space, solidifying San Diego’s status as a destination spot for meetings and special events, the hotel’s director of sales and marketing Jan Hulahan tells GlobeSt.com. As we recently reported , the luxury hotel, which opened in 1987, will be home to a brand-new two-level stacked ballroom project along with Marina Terrace , an outdoor area right on the bay, and a public walkway, Marina Walk . Hulahan tells GlobeSt.com exclusively, “We have an excellent partnership with the Port District ” on this project. She adds that the hotel is “an urban, modern oasis in Downtown San Diego on the Bay, with 1,360 guestrooms and suites and more than 280,000 square feet of meeting space. We are within walking distance to the Gaslamp area and Seaport Village as well as the San Diego Convention Center and only 2 miles from the airport.”

The new ballroom is part of an approximately $107-million renovation of the hotel’s meeting and event venues.

Hulahan adds that the hotel’s amenities, which include an award-winning restaurant, poolside tequila bar and spa, can fill any business or leisure-guest need, and “we will have more than 280,000 square feet of unparalleled meetings and social space.” The expansion of the hotel’s meeting space makes a significant statement about it is viewed as a business and special-events venue, says Hulahan. “We are host to many local social organizations, military balls and weddings. With our extensive new space, we are equipped to host larger functions.” She adds that from 2010 to 2012, the hotel went through an extensive renovation of public space including the lobby, pool area and all meetings space. “Both the hotel’s food-and-beverage venues— Marina Kitchen and Tequila Bar—have both been updated recently, including Marina Kitchen’s new tasting bar. We also added a marketplace called ‘ Exchange’ to enhance the guest experience. We are planning a facelift for our guestrooms at the end of 2017.”
