The Cotton Annex The Cotton Annex
WASHINGTON, DC—The General Services Administration has filed a federal screening notice that the US Department of Agriculture’s historic Cotton Annex has been declared excess property, and “is hereby offered to other federal agencies for possible utilization….” It is, in short, on its way to disposal. That means it could be conveyed to state or local governments or listed for a public competitive sale if another federal agency doesn’t want it. There are limitations on modifications or renovations that can be made to the building because of its historic status, but it can be used for industrial, commercial or residential use, GSA noted. The 118,456-square foot building is located at 300 12th St. SW on a 1.4-acre site. It was built in 1937 and used as a cotton and tobacco testing and storage facility for USDA. Last year it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
