WASHINGTON, DC—Donohoe Cos. is becoming a dual-headquartered firm, with a new lease of 45,000 square feet at 7101 Wisconsin Ave., which is located in Chevy Chase, MD. On paper, at least, it is a major change for the 132-year-old family owned commercial real estate company, which has been a DC-based born and bred entity from the start. In reality, the company is moving just a few miles down its favorite avenue, as a spokesperson told GlobeSt.com. “We’ve has done a lot of development along Wisconsin Ave. over the years,” she said, citing the Chevy Chase Pavilion and Gallery Bethesda among other examples. The company is also taking 12,000 square feet at 5151 Wisconsin Ave., which is in the District and which will allow it to keep its DC headquartered status.  The two buildings are about three miles apart, the spokesperson said. Donohoe is moving out of its current location at 2101 Wisconsin Ave., where it is currently located, in July. One reason for the move, the spokesperson said, is to accommodate the company’s growth. The company now has 1,400 employees.  Its new DC location will house the facilities management operations, while the Chevy Chase site will house everything else, namely its corporate operations, construction activities, real estate development and hospitality. Maryland Provides Funding The company is moving 240 jobs to Chevy Chase, a transition that has helped secure funding from the state and county. To assist with the move the Maryland Department of Commerce has approved a $500,000 conditional loan to the company through its Maryland Economic Development Assistance Authority and Fund, based on committed job creation and capital expenditures. In addition Montgomery County approved a $100,000 grant convertible to a loan under the same terms as the state’s funding.
