ORLANDO—Already one of the fastest growing communities in America, Tavistock Development ‘s Lake Nona is planning to develop the first office building in the Sports and Performance District. The district is one of the cornerstones of the 11-square-mile, integrated and collaborative community. “Lake Nona’s primary jobs center began less than a decade ago with Medical City, a 650-acre life sciences cluster, where anchor partners clustered in close proximity to spark innovation,” Andy Odenbach , vice president of sports ventures for Tavistock. “We believe clusters are the turbo boost for results.” Spanning 50,000 square feet of office space , the two-story building will be located next to the brand new 630-acre United States Tennis Association’s National Campus. That’s in front of the Orlando City Soccer Club’s new 23-acre training complex. “On the heels of its success—with more than $3 billion in construction activity in less than eight years since then—we noticed the natural extension of health and wellness to sports and human performance, an industry Tavistock is also familiar with,” says Odenbach. “Our theory proved true. People embraced the vision and we attracted our first sports anchors: USTA’s National Campus and Orlando City Soccer’s Training Center and Elite Youth Academy.” The Sports and Performance District offers a forward-thinking platform for sports-related organizations in performance, training, nutrition, and health technology with unique resources including: a Gigabit fiber network for fitness and sports applications and high-bandwidth video, sports medicine practices in conjunction with Lake Nona Medical City partners, where marketing firms and manufacturers will be able to test their products and services. The building, which was first unveiled at the Tennis Industry Association’s annual meeting in Miami last month, will offer all sports industry partners built-to-suit spaces ranging from 800 to 10,000 square feet. “The hope was these initial sparks would turn into a fire, and that’s what we’re experiencing now,” says Odenbach. “We are in discussions with a half dozen sports and performance oriented organizations looking to locate in the Lake Nona cluster to capitalize on the unique ecosystem that’s been created—a living lab for innovation that inspires human potential through innovative collaboration.”
