SCOTTSDALE, AZ— Earlier this year, the tenant and buyer rep firm, Keyser , hired a senior real estate attorney, Roger Owers , from a top-rated law firm. In the process, Owers switched industries to commercial real estate brokerage and consulting from a 15-year law career. Company founder Jonathan Keyser explains to GlobeSt.com in an EXCLUSIVE why this was a very unique hire for a commercial real estate firm. “This exercise enabled us to see an opportunity. Rather than hiring the usual salespeople, we get a critical-thinking type of person to provide a higher level of service and value to our clients.” Keyser is now aggressively targeting attorneys who want to switch careers and get into real estate advisory work. As part of Keyser’s mission to consistently provide the highest level of service possible to its partners and clients, the firm believes the skill sets and critical thinking offered by attorneys lend well to providing service to its clients. The brokerage firm believes this will provide a higher notch of service than the competition, which tends to hire personalities versus technicians. Keyser is using this new hiring exercise as a best in class Ivy League intern model of sorts. Keyser tells GlobeSt.com: “I know very few former attorneys that are in brokerage now but I think that there’s a real opportunity because law is getting harder and harder for attorneys to make the same amount of money as they once did, and the critical thinking and training that attorneys learn in law school and in their careers are very good skill sets to have in providing brokerage help to clients. I’m amazed at the type of interest we’ve gotten.” The firm exclusively represents tenants and buyers of office, retail, medical, educational and industrial space.
