WASHINGTON, DC—The JBG Cos. and the General Services Administration have opened the doors to the redeveloped facility at 5600 Fishers Lane in Rockville, Md. The three-phase, $300 million project transformed the 1970s era building, once known as the Parklawn Building, into an 18-story, one-million-square-foot facility that is able to hold four consolidated agencies of the US Department of Health and Human Services under one roof.  The project launched four years ago. GSA signed a $450 million, 15-year lease in 2011 for 935,386 square feet of redeveloped space for about 4,500 employees. An additional 350,000 square feet is available for future GSA expansion. The four agencies are the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Health Resources and Services Administration, the Indian Health Service and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. AHRQ, IHS and SAMHSA were consolidated from offices in other areas of Montgomery County, while HRSA remained in the building while it was being renovated. “We truly have reason to celebrate today,” said. “JBG and its development team created a modern and cost-effective renovation plan for the Parklawn Building that allowed Montgomery County to retain thousands of federal workers—with direct access to Metro. The new 5600 Fishers Lane stands adjacent to the new National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases building, also developed by JBG, Montgomery County Executive Isaiah Leggett noted at the ribbon cutting ceremony, creating a concentration of about 6,000 federal workers in Twinbrook. The development team for 5600 Fishers Lane included general contractor James G. Davis Construction Corporation and architect Gensler.
