University of Maryland, St. John Properties Partner on R&D Project

COLLEGE PARK, MD--The University of Maryland is partnering with St. John Properties on a proposed development on 10.37 acres in Riverdale Park that will include flex research and development space. This project builds on the momentum of the University of Maryland's Greater College Park initiative, an ongoing effort to revitalize the Baltimore Avenue corridor and the surrounding campus.

The project will include 111,240 square feet of flex research and development space within two buildings. The buildings can be configured to meet the needs of hundreds of different business requirements in such industries as engineering, data analytics, earth sciences, virtual reality and cybersecurity.

IKEA To Open Second Virginia Store

NORFOLK, VA--IKEA has decided on its third significant investment in Virginia -- a proposed store in Norfolk. It would join its store in Woodbridge and a furniture factory in Danville that opened in 2008.

IKEA has submitted plans to the City of Norfolk for the construction of a 331,000-square foot store with 1,000 parking spaces on 19 acres at the northwestern corner of Interstate 64 and Northampton Boulevard. Pending approvals, construction of the proposed IKEA Norfolk store could begin in Spring 2017, with an opening in Summer 2018.

COPT Signs Two Deals

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA--Corporate Office Properties Trust has executed long-term leases with a subsidiary of a Fortune 500 company to deliver one 152,500 square foot shell building in the fourth quarter of 2016 and one 215,500 square foot shell building in the second quarter of 2017 within the Bethlehem Technology Park, on approximately 62 acres of land the Company recently purchased.
