IRVINE, CA— University of California, Irvine , along with several veteran service organizations will sponsor a Veteran Talent Recruitment & Retention Bootcamp for HR professionals later this month.  The one-day program, scheduled for July 18, is designed to help Orange County businesses recruit and retain veterans. The commercial real estate industry is among many industries invited to participate in the bootcamp.

California leads the nation with the highest population of veterans at approximately 2 million statewide, with the largest concentration residing in Southern California, the event organizers say. Those organizers include the university’s Veteran Services Center, Career Center, Wellness, Health & Counseling, Human Resources, Institute for Clinical & Translational Science – Heroes at Home, and School of Law Veterans Clinic .  Co-sponsors include Military Connection, Veterans Legal Institute, Orange County Community Foundation , and the Orange County chapter of the National Human Resources Association . Participants in the program will learn:
  • Proven strategies from major companies on successful veteran retention and recruitment.
  • How to build veteran hiring program leveraging resources already in place.
  • How to translate military skills into civilian industry jobs.
  • How to better develop veteran talent.
  • How to benefit from reward programs to companies hiring veterans.

The program also aims to:

  • Increase understanding of relevant law and available state, county and community resources.
  • Clarify veteran health issues.

The bootcamp will be held at UCI Student Center Pacific Ballroom on Saturday July 18. Registration begins at 8 am and the program runs from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Panalists will include business, veteran, and university leaders as well as experts on health and legal issues pertinent to the recruitment of veterans. The fee for the program is $125.
