PHILADELPHIA—Liberty Property Trust, Synterra Partners and PIDC say that Central Green, the dynamic park located in the center of the revitalized and redeveloped Navy Yard, has received multiple awards for design and development, just as Liberty/Synterra’s newest building overlooking the park, 1200 Intrepid Avenue, is scheduled to come on line. Honors for excellence in design and development were received from ArchDaily, Architizer and ULI Philadelphia. Central Green, which opened one year ago, was designed by James Corner Field Operations and developed in a joint investment by Liberty Property/Synterra, PIDC, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. “ Central Green is an excellent illustration of how to successfully redefine the intersection of work and play which, in turn, has helped to further advance The Navy Yard as one of the most compelling work environments in the country,” says Brian Cohen, vice president and city manager of Liberty Property Trust. “We are thrilled that the design and development communities have recognized Central Green, a place that remains a key draw for employees working here and companies looking to call The Navy Yard home.” It has also been one year since Liberty Property/Synterra broke ground on the now nearly complete 94,000 square foot office building at 1200 Intrepid Avenue. It is the first building in Philadelphia to be designed by Bjarke Ingels Group. This summer, Penn Capital Management will occupy 26,000 square feet in the building, with the remaining 68,000 square feet of office space available for lease.
CentralGreen , located in the heart of The Navy Yard , utilizes a 20-foot wide “Social Track” to organize the project and frame a unique, immersive interior park. Marked by a large digital clock and oversized chaise lounge chairs, this 1/5-mile loop allows for measured exercise and socialization. The park interior is home to a hammock grove, a sunlawn that hosts concerts and other performances, conference table with Wi-‐Fi, bocce courts, table tennis, and a fitness area. Recent recognitions have come from:
ArchDaily, which included Central Green in its “100 Top Projects” list.
Architizer, which named Central Green the Popular Choice Winner: Landscaping & Public Planning – Public Park in its fourth annual A+ Awards.
Urban Land Institute Philadelphia’s third annual Awards for Excellence (honoring the legacy of Willard G. “Bill” Rouse III) recognizes top projects completed within the last five years throughout Eastern and Central Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, and Delaware. Central Green received a 2016ULI Philadelphia Awards for Excellence by demonstrating quality planning and design, incorporating elements that build healthy places, promoting environmental sustainability, and meeting community needs.
“We are thrilled with the recognition of this world-class park in The Navy Yard’s growing campus,” says Prema Gupta , senior vice president of Navy Yard Planning & Development at PIDC. “ The Navy Yard is one of the nation’s most vibrant and progressive business locations, and Central Green is the perfect sustainable amenity to match the active workplace activities that surround it.”
