ROSSLYN, VA-Netherlands-based Regus is opening another SPACES location in the Washington DC area, with the planned debut of 45,000-square feet in the Rosslyn submarket.
The company already has about 51 locations in the area for its flexible workspace concept, including a location in Park Place, a Rosslyn-based office building owned by Tishman Speyer at 1655 North Fort Myer Dr.
Regus' co-working concept, though, is just beginning to make its way to the area.
Its first debut will be as the office anchor for Douglas Development's redevelopment of the historic Uline ice arena, where SPACES will occupy 44,000-square feet.
SPACES originated in the Netherlands to nurture the local startup scene, and the concept has since spread to New York City, Amsterdam, The Hague, London, Melbourne, Sydney and Rotterdam.
Co-working providers, in general, are absorbing an increasing amount of the DC area's office market. Recent examples include WeWork's sixth deal in the District — 117,769 square feet at Metropolitan Square that backfilled the space vacated by Miller & Chevalier.
WeWork also expanded its Dupont Circle location at 1875 Connecticut Avenue, NW by 18,615 square feet. Also, the New York-based co-working service Serendipity Labs signed a 18,731-square foot new lease at Carr Properties' 4500 East West Highway in Bethesda, MD — its first presence in the DC metro region. SPACES' new location in Rosslyn will be at 1101 Wilson Blvd.
